Black Biscuit

Tell us a little bit about your company.

Black Biscuit started as a roller hockey uniform supplier based in Southern California back in 1994.  The brand went on hiatus in the early 2000’s as the original partners pursued other endeavors.   The brand was revived in 2014 and is now based out of St. Paul, Minnesota and specializes in custom sublimated uniforms and apparel for the sporting goods market, primarily focusing on Ice and Inline Hockey.  We travel throughout the United States sponsoring events and promoting the great sport of hockey, while also selling our Black Biscuit branded apparel.

What is the company's mission?

Black Biscuit’s mission is to design and manufacture uniforms and apparel for the sports industry, primarily focusing on the Hockey market including Ice, Pond, Dek, and Inline hockey.

Why is it important for your organization to give back to the community?

Basically because the community has been good to myself and my family.  I was fortunate enough to grow up in two great communities, Duluth and Roseville, where knowing your neighbors and community involvement were strong.  I think back to all of the adults  that spent so much time organizing, coaching, and supporting my and my siblings athletic endeavors.   My parents were very involved and instilled in their kids the importance of serving the community and giving back.   When I started Black Biscuit one of my goals was to reciprocate in whatever ways I could, be it in product or monetary donations, offering our expertise and knowledge, or giving our time.

What is your connection to the hockey world?

I grew up playing hockey for Glen Avon in Duluth, MN through squirts, then our family moved to Roseville where I played for the youth association and shined as a backup goalie for Alexander Ramsey High School (Nobody could open a bench door like I could).   I played street hockey during my college years at the University of Georgia, and then played roller and ice hockey in Manhattan Beach, California.  I founded Black Biscuit in California in 1994 designing and manufacturing uniforms and apparel for both the Ice and Roller Hockey markets.    This gave  me the chance to play, coach, and sponsor events throughout  the US, Japan, Europe, and Australia.  I moved my family back to the Twin Cities in 2000 and coached youth hockey for 8 years in Minneapolis and Edina.   I have also had the pleasure of playing ice hockey every Friday afternoon during the hockey season with our Lunch Bucket group  at the St. Louis Park Recreation Center for the past 17 years.

What would be something you would like people to know about your company?

Black Biscuit is a lifestyle and the business was started because a few guys  wanted to do something they loved and could share with many people.   I have been fortunate to work with some great people in this industry and our company has had some great opportunities to help grow the sport; from playing in exhibition events and hosting clinics in Melbourne, Australia and Gifu, Japan to sponsoring hockey clinics in non-traditional markets including Compton, California and LaGrange, Georgia.
